Swedish DJ Avicii dead at 28

Tim Bergling, known around the globe as progressive house superstar Avicii, has passed away on Friday, April 20, his publicist confirmed in a press release. He was 28 years old.

“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the loss of Tim Bergling, also known as Avicii,” says his publicist Diana Baron in a statement. “He was found dead in Muscat, Oman this Friday afternoon local time, April 20th. The family is devastated and we ask everyone to please respect their need for privacy in this difficult time. No further statements will be given.”

Bergling recently returned to dance music with a new EP, Avīci (01), after announcing his retirement in 2016 due to health issues. The producer had been struggling physically for years on end, leading to many cancelled live performances, most notably at Ultra Music Festival in 2014. It was a year when Avicii reached the high point of his career. Now fans may never how far the producer could have gone. Nevertheless, Bergling will be long remembered as one of dance music’s pioneers and global tastemakers.

No specifics surrounding Bergling’s cause of death have been released, although this post will be updated as more details become available.
