Gorillaz frontman Damon Albarn debuts new solo project during Boiler Room performance [WATCH]

Following a Gorillaz performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, frontman Damon Albarn has returned to the Boiler Room for a solo sonic adventure. It’s a direction that is strikingly different than anything the UK artist has done as lead singer on Blur or Gorillaz. Albarn debuts a new project, The Nearer the Fountain, More Pure the Stream Flows, a new solo project named after a John Clare poem, Love and Memory.

The project features Albarn singing melancholy over the guitar and piano keys. The 21-minute performance is decidedly more chill than a Gorillaz track and vastly different than anything Boiler Room is known for. Featuring acoustic vibes, organic sound samples, and soothing textures, it’s a refreshing departure from the prominent music channel’s techno and house jam sessions. Have a listen.
