If there is one thing that has become a certainty over the past few years, it’s that Bassnectar will be testing out and releasing new album material at Electric Forest. The EF resident has used past years to premiere his Into The Sun LP and Reflective EP material; and the 2018 edition of Insomniac & Madison House‘s annual gathering was no different.

That’s why, when Lorin Ashton posted to his Facebook on the first day of Forest that he would be premiering new sounds from his third Reflective EP, his loyal cult following of bass heads were in a frenzy over the surprise announcement. Previously thought to be a two-part EP project, the questions resonating across everyone’s minds were: Reflective is now a trilogy?! Would the third part be focused in Ashton’s current downtempo direction? Who are the collaborators?

Those questions were partly answered upon Bassnectar’s headlining set on the final day of Electric Forest weekend one. Upon closing out Sunday night at the famed Ranch Arena stage, the bass music demigod premiered a new track, titled “Whiplash,” featuring one of his favorite collaborators in Gnar Gnar.
