Ultra Miami scouting South Beach for 2020
Given the massive logistical nightmare that Ultra Music Festival this past March, organizers have announced they won’t be returning to Virginia Key in 2020. The news after Virginia Key voted to not have them return due to increased stress on nearby aquatic life.
Then, a Miami City Council member leaked that Ultra would be moving to Homestead-Miami Speedway, a venue about 30 miles southwest of the city. Now a local Miami news source reports that the Miami Beach commissioner wants to move the 2020 gathering to Lummus Park in South Beach. An official discussion to vote on the move is currently set for May 22.
“An adequate public safety, transportation and noise mitigation plan [will] be provided,” says City Commissioner Ricky Arriola. “Inviting an established, well-organized event like Ultra for spring break 2020 will put heads in beds and serves as the counter-programming mechanism against the unorganized chaos that was spring break 2019 on Miami Beach.”
