Here are the 2020 Dance/Electronic Grammys nominees: Skrillex, Flume, Tycho, RÜFÜS DU SOL, & more
It’s that time of year when the temperatures begin their downward descent, at least in the Northern Hemisphere, and the Recording Academy begins to recognize achievements in the music industry. This year’s Grammy Awards finds the usual cohort of electronic dance music artists on the nominee shortlist, along with some dark horses.
Among the coveted Best Album award category, Sascha Ring, the Berlin artist known as Apparat, makes the cut with LP5. Not as surprising is Flume‘s name on the shortlist. What is surprising, however, is that his Hi This Is Flume mixtape isn’t exactly an album, but a nominee is fitting for the Aussie experimentalist whose known for doing things differently. The Chemical Brothers have been nominated for their seventh studio album, No Geography, released back in April.
Ambient, organic, and chill seem to be well represented this year, with RÜFÜS DU SOL‘s Solace and Tycho‘s Weather nominated, proving there has definitely been a generic trend for that direction lately. Although RÜFÜS’ album was released in 2018, making our Top Albums list for 2018, the album landed after last year’s cut off.
The Chemical Brothers and RÜFÜS DU SOL doubled up on the nods for 2020, with singles from their respective LPs also making the cut for Best Dance Recording. Joining them is the esteemed Bonobo for his single “Linked,” Meduza and Goodboys for “Piece of Your Heart,” and, of course, Skrillex, Boys Noize, and Ty Dolla $ign for their genre-blending single, “Midnight Hour.” The single has reached anthemic status as one of the year’s most widely remixed songs.
The 62nd Annual Grammy Awards will take place Jan. 26, 2020. The awards show will be broadcast on CBS from the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Stay tuned for more information on how/where to live stream the ceremony.
