Zeds Dead and REZZ go deep ‘Into The Abyss’ and there’s no coming back
When REZZ first splashed onto the scene in 2014, her ascendancy was unlike anything the dance music world had ever seen. Nowadays, the former mau5trap angel is collaborating with just about every big name in the industry. When Zeds Dead came to her beckon for “Into The Abyss,” REZZ’s childhood dream came true.
“I’ve been listening to Zeds Dead since I was a lil 16 year old going to events by myself so, really proud of the collab,” said the Beyond The Senses producer over her Twitter.
In fact, the high-profile collaboration was first exposed over Twitter when REZZ tweeted her fellow Canadian producers a simple emoji and blogs ran with the speculation. After months of teasing the collaboration in their live sets, the trio of bass tastemakers revealed the title and release date this week to much fan fare. Now “Into The Abyss” arrives via Deadbeats Records as a solid package that may very well be the best track of 2020 thus far. While that’s merely a matter of opinion, the joint effort is a well oiled masterpiece.
Hypnotic, dreamlike, and incredibly alluring, “Into The Abyss” strikes the perfect balance between each artist’s signature sound stamps. While the boys attend to the song’s lead-ups, REZZ brings her hypnotizing vibe to the drops. The record shifts fluidly between REZZ’s dark, foreboding half-time stints and paralyzing drops and Zeds Dead’s heavy bass tumbles, jarring saw synths, and that vocal sample echo that fans have come to love from their debut Northern Lights LP.
The accompanying music video is set in the beautiful Canadian mountains around a foggy lake. The video follows a young heroine who dives head first into the water and suddenly enters a psychedelic terrain where there’s just to turning back. Watch and stream “Into the Abyss” below.
