Avicii wins posthumous VMA for Best Dance Video
The late, great Avicii has been no stranger to MTV‘s Video Music Awards and last night’s awards were no different. The Swedish superstar producer received VMA nods dating back to 2012, when “Levels” was nominated for best electronic dance video and best choreography. The song would also lead him to a Grammy win the following year.
Now Tim Bergling has added a Moonmen to his award collection as Avicii took home best dance song alongside Rita Ora for their collaboration, “Lonely Together.” The song’s lyrics actually mirrored the mental health struggles Bergling was facing leading up to his death. Additional artists nominated in the category were Calvin Harris, The Chainsmokers, David Guetta, Marshmello, and Zedd.
Avicii died earlier this year in Oman at age 28, which was ruled a suicide.
