When Boogie T launched his three-piece live band at Electric Forest Weekend Two, fans were surprised to see a riddim/bass producer venturing into the world of live electronica. But for Brock Thornton, the man behind the moniker, the live jam band format was nothing new to him. Growing up in New Orleans, he would regularly join his dad and his fellow blues cats at local bars for all-night, improv jam sessions.
“I’ve been in bands since I was 11, so it’s nothing new,” he says. “I’ve been wanting to do a live project for a long time, but I think it’s finally the right time in my career to make it happen.”
Electric Forest was certainly the right place to make a splashing Boogie T.rio debut, and now Thorton is poised for an entire 30-date tour (with more TBA stops to come). Joined by Andriu Yanovski on keys and synth, and Frank Castro on drums, Boogie T will lead the pack on his guitar at every corner of the country. They’ll also be joined by supporting talent in Mersiv and Vampa.
