Midweek Mantra Mix 006: Brillz’s psybass side-project, LSDREAM, explores transmutation in new ‘ALCHEMY’ mixtape series

Wednesday is humpday, which not only marks the halfway point between the work week and the coveted weekend, but also Conscious Electronic’Midweek Mantra Mix (M3). We’ve been scouring the web’s most enlightening bass music mixes that align with our vision, to provide “a conscious way to consume dance music.” M3 spotlights both veteran and up-and-coming bass music artists whose music seeks to raise the vibrations of their collective listener base.

Brillz may be mostly known for his forceful trap, releasing on every label from Mad Decent and OWSLA to Never Say Die and his very own imprint Twonk, but it’s always refreshing to see producer explore new identities and styles. However, the LA-based producer put down the hammer and tongs in favor of experimental bass and psychedelic waveforms. The result was a new tripped-out project in the form of his 10-track Voyager LP, released last year on Liquid Stranger’s Wakaan. The LSDREAM moniker was thus born out of the ashes.

Image result for lsdreamIn the process of his own reinvention and transformation, LSDREAM has become one of the most-in-demand bass producers in the left-field movement. He’s already making a strong 2019 festival run with bookings at Coachella‘s underground electronic stage, put on by DoLaB, as well as Shambhala. He’s also heavily favored to be slated for Wakaan Music Festival’s inaugural event on Mulberry Mountain, with the line-up due any day now.

Recently, LSDREAM has been committed to his newly-launched mixtape series, dubbed ALCHEMY, a collection of songs and samples that perfectly aligned with our M3 series. Coming as the sixth installment is our M3 series is LSDREAM’s debut ALCHEMY01 mixtape. It’s 31-minutes of LSDREAM originals, including “Ten of Pinnacles,” “Pillars Of Light,” and “Psychedelic.” The mix is also choked full of diversity, with music that LSDREAM feels fits within his new soundscape—including features from everyone from Robotaki, Black Gummy, and Knodis to Zeke Beats’ remix of REZZ, and Blanke & 1788-L’s “D E S T I N Y.”

More than music, the mix features powerfully soothing voiceover samples that speak on energetic transmutation, cosmic ascension, awakening through self-love, and collective consciousness through connection to source.

“I’m really into cryptic, weird, esoteric stuff, very mysterious, very bizarre symbols, and I’m into psychology,” he revealed to Billboard in a past interview. “When I put out that concept, the whole point was ‘hey, lets put out something that nobody knows what it is.’ People ask what is it, and I’ll just be like, ‘it is what it is. What do you think it is? What is it to you?'”

LSDREAM’s beginnings are humble, to say the least. As someone whose battled homelessness, the fact that he is using his new experimental bass moniker as a platform for preaching conscious awareness speaks volumes to his character and humanity.
