Midweek Mantra Mix 008: Au5 takes Denver to church with his Ogden Downtempo Set

Wednesday is humpday, which not only marks the halfway point between the work week and the coveted weekend, but also Conscious Electronic’Midweek Mantra Mix (M3). We’ve been scouring the web’s most enlightening bass music mixes that align with our vision, to provide “a conscious way to consume dance music.” M3 spotlights both veteran and up-and-coming bass music artists whose music seeks to raise the vibrations of their collective listener base.

Coming in for our next M3 transmission is Au5 with his Ogden Downtempo Set, which he delivered in support of Liquid Stranger in Denver, Colorado. Au5 is the solo project of Austin Collins, a 26-year-old bass music producer from New Jersey, now based in Colorado’s touted “bass capital of the world.” He’s released on Gravitas, Anjunadeep, and Monstercat with a penchant for turning away from trendy music in favor of taking his listeners on a journey into full mind-body awareness.

Known for breaking the boundaries of genre, Au5 merges heavy, technical bass music with entrancing melodic soundscapes, which makes him perfect for this week’s M3 edition. In the hour-long mix, Au5 runs the full gamut of emotion with nods to Virtual Riot, Carbon Based Lifeforms, Phutureprimitive, Mr. Bill, and plenty of his own IDs along the way—five to be exact. He certainly utilized his platform opening for Liquid Stranger in the best of ways, taking the crowd deep into a meditative journey of calming, yogic tones and undulating bass lines.

The show was such a vibe I couldn’t help but feel the need to share it with the world,” says Collins of the set, which he posted to SoundCloud fully re-mastered just last month.

But what makes the mix so aptly suited for the Midweek Mantra Mix is Au5’s ability to catapult listeners into realignment with the spirit. He does this through masterful curation and song placement, first tuning them into the body with immersive bass, then taking them deep into the mind. It is in this space, where they shed their material transgressions, that they channel the mind’s eye, entering the portal into the spiritual realm.
