Jillionaire parts ways with Major Lazer, replaced by Ape Drum ahead of final LP
When Major Lazer began promoting the concept for their new Lazerism LP a few weeks ago, rumors began swirling that Jillionaire was looking to part ways from the iconic hip-hop/dancehall crossover trio, consisting of other members Diplo and Walshy Fire.
It’s no secret that the sun has been setting on Major Lazer project, ever since Diplo revealed the group would be disbanding after one final album. Now Jillionaire’s departure has become official in a recent social media post announcing “a new era of Major Lazer,” alongside the coming of their next full-length studio album, entitled Lazerism.
The announcement revealed that long-time friend and frequent collaborator, Ape Drum, would be joining the group after making his live debut with the remaining guys at Governor’s Ball last weekend. Jillionaire’s departure to work on his own project marks the second time a member has left Major Lazer, with the first being original member, Switch, back in 2011.
