Canadian star-powered producer Ekali has been in the spotlight quite a bit this year. An often outspoken personality on Twitter, he is equally known for being vocal with his online opinions as he is for producing and performing a wide range of styles. His new single, “Back to You,” with Kiiara is reminiscent of the glory days of future bass and is an inspiring take on the melodic genre.
Recently performing at the heavy dubstep-laden Lost Lands, he made waves when he unapologetically played a different set than many headbangers expected. His set was received with mixed reactions: many fans voiced their outrage while many others enjoyed the change of pace.
Hah if u were at lost lands tonight and hated my set, I have no idea why u showed up expecting riddim. I had the time of my life thank you to those who vibed with me & thank you @Excision for giving me a chance to play for the festival. Hope u shazammed the >1000 follower artists

This new single is emblematic of that same vibe. Turning away from the heavier sound, Ekali laces this track with layered melodic synthesizers and bright, cheerful set of samples. Reminiscent of the Flume-inspired era of euphoric electronic music, this tune has a distinctly nostalgic feel while still retaining a modern aesthetic.
“Back To You” is the third single released off Ekali’s forthcoming debut album. The single follows the Reo Cragun-assisted “Runaway” and the emotional break-up ballad, “Be Fine,” featuring Wafia. Ekali is also continuing his big year with a slew of tour dates to close out 2019.
