Louis The Child tap THEY.’s Drew Love on newest single, ‘Free’

Louis The Child is never at a loss when it comes to pulling out vibrant dance-pop cuts from under their belts. Most recently, the Chicago-based duo unleashed their budding remix of Skrillex and Boys Noize‘s “Midnight Hour,” which the two fashioned from their live sets into studio-quality magic. Louis The Child has now added another notch in the old belt loop with a brand single, “Free,” upon which the pair have enlisted the vocals of Drew Love from THEY.

Featuring a heart-wrenchingly beautiful melody, the words are layered over exquisite melodic progressions, soft string plucks, skittering synths, and a bouncy bassline, all of which lead up to two breathtaking drops. Drew Love’s vocals perfectly portray the raw emotion in the producer duo’s sonic toolbox, with lyrics that help tell the story of reflecting back on a love that didn’t quite work out.

What’s readily apparent of “Free” is how much time was put into tweaking the tune to perfection. “We tried about 20 million different drops for this song because we knew we had to have the production match that emotion,” Louis The Child said.

The release comes at the beginning of Louis The Child’s NA tour, which they announced with the release of “Too Close” at the end of summer. The duo are currently stopping off in major US and Canadian cities alongside special guests Léon, Duckworth, Sebastian Paul, John The Blind, and ilo ilo.
