Introducing Mize: immersive bass music newcomer crafts sultry, all-unreleased downtempo mix, ‘Comfort Colors’
Here at Conscious Electronic, we love all things bass — breakbeat, downtempo, left-field, experimental, dubstep in all its forms, you name it. As the underground bass movement has begun its full ascendancy in the US, we’ve been keeping a finger on the pulse of up-and-coming bass artists the country over. As such, CE’s Rising Bass Spotlight seeks to turn a focus onto those rising producers who’re developing their craft, garnering their audiences, and turning eyes, ears, heads, and bodies with their commitment to all things low end.
Alabama-based producer, Ian Evans, may have started out in the Bassnectar family, but he’s definitely set himself apart as a soon-to-be star-powered producer. He runs around under his Mize moniker, hitting every festival this year from Texas’ Beyond Existence to Electric Forest. It was there in Sherwood, in the wee hours of the morning, where he played an after-hours renegade set that reverberated across the country. Suddenly, Mize was the talk of the bass music underground right alongside another round of producers who emerged from within the Bassnectar scene, including Ravenscoon, Slave, Wreckno, all of whom have been featured on our Rising Bass Spotlight before.
Coming off a highly applauded performance at Wakaan Festival, which was his last downtempo set of 2019, it seems Mize isn’t quite done dabbling in downtempo just yet. Evans has unleashed a stunning new downtempo mix, Comfort Colors, filled with all-original tracks, including his popular remixes of Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used To Know,” Kaskade and deadmau5’s “Move For Me,” and Ciara’s “1, 2 Step.”
Throughout the 53-minute mix, Mize shows off his supreme mashup skills as he layers tracks on tracks over his gooey low-end basslines. That’s not all, either. The most exciting part of the new mixtape is that it comes with a whopping 11 new IDs that Mize has been working hard in the studio on and testing out on the road.
Mize’s next original track arrives on Christmas, although new music isn’t the only exciting new development on the horizon. The producer has hinted that he has many exciting show and festival announcements coming after the new year. He has also announced his already sold-out NYE pre-party alongside co-headliner Wreckno, taking place during Bassnectar 360 in Louisville, Kentucky.
