Above & Beyond display beauty in darkness on latest Anjunabeats release, ‘Another Angel’ [WATCH]
For fans of Above & Beyond‘s 2011 single, “On My Way To Heaven,” from their acclaimed Group Therapy LP, the iconic UK trio has pulled something just as transcendent out of their compositional parcel. Out today on Anjunabeats, “Another Angel” is meant to be a follow-up to the 2011 track.
“Another Angel” was originally debuted at Group Therapy Weekender 2019, Above & Beyond’s new bi-annual camping festival at The Gorge Amphitheater. Yet, this angel sounds far from heaven sent. another example of Above & Beyond’s recent attraction to tougher, tenebrous sounds this year. Think: “Waltz,” “Distorted Truth,” “There’s Only You,” and the resurgent tech-trance sounds of Genix on Anjunabeats.
The unmistakable and usually strident vocal work of Richard Bedford takes a different turn on the track, sounding almost plaintive and cowed. Bedford’s voice is surrounded on all sides by shuddering, cascading bass. Things culminate in a breathtaking drop that somehow manages to be quintessential Above & Beyond and something totally fresh at the same time.
Since its live stage debut, the tune has been warping minds from New York to Prague, accompanied by a titanic visual that’s unnervingly similar to Dr. Who’s most terrifying antagonist. Now “Another Angel,” along with its music video accompaniment, is widely available in final mastered quality, marking another instant classic in Above & Beyond’s storied vault.
The Grammy-nominated trio, comprised of Tony McGuinness, Jono Grant, and Paavo Siljamäki, are currently touring around the globe. They will be ringing in the new year at the New York Expo Center alongside the Anjunafamily. Next year marks a pivotal time for Above & Beyond as they will be celebrating 20 years of Anjunabeats at Alpine Escape.
