Memba release ‘Meet Freedom’ on Foreign Family Collective
For a couple of newcomers, MEMBA had a stellar 2019 with their visual and audio project, SAGA-II, along with appearances on ODESZA’s A Moment Apart tour and a Coachella DoLaB spot. Not to mention, they had performances at Arise, Resonance, and Ultra Miami, along with an upcoming supporting spot on Whethan’s Here For Now tour.
MEMBA now returns to ODESZA’s thriving Foreign Family imprint for their newest single, “Meet Freedom.” Written alongside Levus Alone, the ideas for “Meet Freedom” came about four years ago and the rest of the creation followed.
“We wrote this with our UK-based friend, Levus Alone,” MEMBA explain of the process. “We’ve been writing with him for a long time. We recorded the vocals for this about 4 years ago while he worked at a Bingo in Leeds. The instrumental came together a lot later. We don’t know what he’s up to these days. He’s been hard to reach. But he’s one of the most talented people we’ve worked with and he really does like to be left alone. We’re really excited to play this one in our upcoming headline tour. We have something really special planned for it.”
The single has MEMBA’s trademark cinematic quality – with the searching vocals of Levus Alone cutting through its heavily textured instrumentals. Bubbling percussion and a meandering basslines come into play with understated groove, and the track flickers into life over and over.
MEMBA also share their thoughts on their deeply personal immersive show that is brand new for 2020: “Everything we’ve been doing has been leading up to this tour. We’ve built brand new instruments, inflatable eggs – that’s all we can say.”
