Introducing Luminyst: Rising bass producer conjures stunning 4-track downtempo EP, ‘With Love’

Here at Conscious Electronic, we love all things bass — breakbeat, downtempo, left-field, experimental, dubstep in all its forms, you name it. As the underground bass movement has begun its full ascendancy in the US, we’ve been keeping a finger on the pulse of up-and-coming bass artists the country over. As such, CE’s Rising Bass Spotlight seeks to turn a focus onto those rising producers who’re developing their craft, garnering their audiences, and turning eyes, ears, heads, and bodies with their commitment to all things low end.

Atlanta native and Rapture Studios co-founder David Timko is Luminyst (formerly SLAVE). He came of age in the culture of Pittsburgh’s thriving rave scene where he stayed for several years before  moving to Ohio to establish his own local event culture with Rapture. Over the years, SLAVE has anded an official remix for Liquid Stranger, released music on Pantheon and Headbang Society, and opened on a massive roster of tours for SKisM, Doctor P, 12th Planet, Adventure Club,  Bleep Bloop, and so many more.

However, it was a pivotal moment in 2017 when Bassnectar approached him that launched an exciting new chapter in SLAVE’s career. Bassnectar had come across his track, “Breakthrough,” and wanted to give the track his own touch with a live edit. After playing out the track at BassCenter, Oregon Eclipse, Freestyle Sessions, and Spring Gathering, SLAVE’s fan community began filling up with bass heads.

SLAVE would go on to create his popular Juxtaposition EP series, which proved the producer had his finger on the pulse of who’s who and what’s hot in the underground bass community. With two mixes currently out, Pressure (Side A) and Peace (Side B), SLAVE samples everyone from bass veterans like Tipper, Kursa, and Minnesota to rising stars like Sully, WHIPPED CREAM, and Space Laces.

SLAVE now returns to the bass music radar with his very first downtempo EP, With Love. The inspired four-track journey is a soothing, meditative experience that explores immersive downtempo landscapes. Characterized by worldly tone, grounding bass lines, beautiful arps, and organic, desert-inspired textures, With Love centers the body while allowing the mind to soar to faraway places.

“These 4 tracks were my favorite emotional selections from my audio sketchbook over the past year and each song comes from a deeply personal moment of inspiration from my journey. I hope they resonate with some of you as well!”

CE also had the chance to interview the promising talent around the time when he released his Annihilation EP with Visive, where he spoke to his production experience, working on all sides of the industry, and heading up Rapture Studios. SLAVE is one bass music talent we’re excited to watch.
