OTR wraps forthcoming debut album rollout with poetic Au/Ra-assisted single, ‘Broken’

Ryan Chadwick is the 26-year-old aerospace engineer-turned-producer behind OTR. The glistening new electronic artist, who’s shaping up to be a darling newcomer on Astralwerks, is gearing up for the release of his full-length debut, Lost At Midnight.  Arriving as the sixth single from the forthcoming album, OTR now shares “Broken,” a poetic single with Au/Ra which captures the emotional seesaw of wanting to be open to love yet fearing heartbreak.

“The song ‘Broken’ initially sounded like a happy pop anthem when it was initially written,”  Chadwich said on the making of the record. “On the flight back from Columbus to Atlanta last year, I had this idea to make it a bit darker and wrote the new instrumental on the spot. Thankfully, Au/Ra was available and jumped in. It was a lot of fun working with her; she added a ton of life and a whole new direction for the song. Working with her was much like the rest of the album; it was very collaborative and took the music to another level.”

Raised on the Caribbean island of Antigua, Au/Ra crafts a verbose emotive sonic world on “Broken.” The single is filled with her eloquent pop-style musings that explore the dark nature of humanity with huge pop hooks and distinctive production. “Broken,” much like her musical catalog, is the aural equivalent of an Edgar Allen Poe story. It’s a patchwork of subterraneous synths, haunting vocals, propulsive beats, and symbolic lyrics that tugs on listeners’ hopes and fears.

Lost At Midnight is set to land April 24. Vinyl and digital editions are available for pre-order here. Chadwick has already released a few powerfully produced singles off the LP, with “Midnight Sun” and “Moon” standing out amongst the pack.

OTR will also be embarking on his very first headline outing in the form of a North American summer tour, beginning June 24. See full dates for the Lost At Midnight tour below.
