mau5trap associates i_o and Lights link on hypnotizing collaborative single, ‘Annihilation’
Hotly rising techno newcomer i_o is gearing up for the third installment in his 444 album series. Following his recent ACID 444 and NRG 444 EPs, the mau5trap favorite has launched to forthcoming release with a new track, titled “Annihilation.”
The track enlists another mau5trap favorite in Lights, who’s popularly known for working with deadmau5 (Joel Zimmerman) on the tripped-out single, “Drama Free.” The singer toured live with Zimmerman all across his latest Cube V3 tour, which also brought i_o along for select stops. So the production/vocalist duo already possess amazing synergy together, which is clearly portrayed on the track.
The three-and-a-half-minute cut showcases a different style than fans are used to hearing from i_o, with his previous two EPs encompassing dark industrial beats and more acid-tinged techno. “Annihilation” is decidedly more progressive and spotlights Lights’ gorgeous vocals alongside what sounds to be i_o’s vocals. The lyrics are sultry, seductive, and build heated intensity between the two over a catchy, 4×4 beat.
The new collaborative EP is titled AM 444 and will be available on May 29.
