For those who may not keep up with the commercial hip-hop world, The Neptunes are the powerhouse duo of Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo. With Pharrell on vocals, and Hugo, who is also a member of N.E.R.D., on production and instruments, the duo actually dates back to 1990. Back then, Williams and Hugo formed a four-piece “R&B type” group along with friends Shay and Mike Etheridge, which they named The Neptunes. Upon entering a local talent contest, they were discovered by Teddy Riley, whose studio was close to Williams’ school.
Now the two have linked up with one of EDM’s kingpins, deadmau5, on “Pomegranate.” Out now on mau5trap, the track is a jaunty, mid-tempo summertime tune with light-hearted vibes, jammy tones, and easygoing guitar chords. When two massive artists come together on a single track, the world listens. That’s exactly what is happening with “Pomegranate,” which has already enjoyed more than 200,000 streams on YouTube alone.
When Pharrell steps into the electronic dance music world, the proof is in the pudding. Just look to his Daft Punk collaboration for proof. There’s certainly samples and tastes of “Get Lucky” on this track. Take a listen.
