In the wake of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, few could argue that live music is one of the biggest markets to be hit hard. Venues are experiencing upwards of 90 percent revenue loss right now as the so-called “second wave” of Coronavirus is ceasing to exist. Why? Because the US never left the first wave, with rates of infection only spiking in states all around the country.
This means that throughout 2021, there’s a chance we lose nine out of 10 of our favorite independent venues in the United States. Many might be asking themselves, “What can I do as a supporter of music?” Start by taking simple action and signing the Save Our Stages petition by the National Independent Venue Association (NIVA). NIVA’s mission is to preserve and nurture the ecosystem of independent live music venues and promoters throughout the United States.
Your support means you could help aid in the passing of the RESTART Act. “This is our final push to Congress and there won’t be another opportunity,” the organization writes. “Please help us #SaveOurStages now.”
