Here at Conscious Electronic, we love all things bass — breakbeat, downtempo, left-field, experimental, dubstep in all its forms, you name it. As the underground bass movement has begun its full ascendancy in the US, we’ve been keeping a finger on the pulse of up-and-coming bass artists the country over. As such, CE’s Rising Bass Spotlight seeks to shine a light onto the rising producers who’re honing their craft, galvanizing their movements, and attuning eyes, ears, heads, and bodies into all things low end.
Good art builds on the history and the culture of previous artists that came before it, and in true homage to the past sounds and musical landscapes that have shaped our electronic culture today. CANVAS knows this as she proudly showcases “Roots,” a three-minute record that pays homage to those classic electronic sounds that influenced her musical style over the years.
Birthed from bass, with unprecedented energy, CANVAS creates musical experiences that blur bass genre lines and spawn a welcoming chaos. Her dedication to self-expression and passion for bass sounds are infectious, inviting, and unrelenting. Since 2013, CANVAS has been curating and spreading bass-heavy music from the heart of Atlanta, GA to music festivals throughout North America.
Trained as a classical musician on euphonium, CANVAS utilizes her orchestral upbringing and love for diverse sounds to craft unique musical productions that transcend genre boundaries and boldly tip-toe on the fine line of sound and noise. From lush, pulsing melodies to deep, dark, infectious bass lines, there’s no one in this space today that parallels her talent.
Her production style and stage presence are a breath of fresh air in the electronic scene, and something simply to be witnessed. It is no doubt that CANVAS is a rare talent, with her unbridled passion, ambition, energy, and intensity. She consistently delivers music that touches the body, mind, and soul for a full-spectrum bass experience.
Throughout quarantine, CANVAS has certainly positioned herself as One to Watch in the bass music community, which is why CE is happy to feature her as our next Rising Bass Spotlight artist.
Can you remember the first electronic song that got you hooked? I mean, the one that truly changed your perspective on music!? I do! It was ‘Silicon Jesus [Break The Screen Mix]’ by Psykosonik. If you haven’t heard this – let me tell you, go listen to it now!
Released in 1993, it was edgy, so groovy, and the embodiment (in my opinion) of 90’s rave culture in sound. It’s that same energy and touch of sound that I channeled into my new release ‘Roots’!
‘Roots’ pays homage to the culture, sounds, and synths that paved the way for much of the electronic music we rock to today. It was pure flow and fun harnessing this energy and re-envisioning it with a modern, bass-face inducing twist. It’s almost like a time machine giving you access to the past while experiencing in the present.
