Michigan-born, Los Angeles-residing bass music producer PEEKABOO (real name: Matthew Lucas) is no stranger to the heaviest of dubstep sounds. Since his monumental breakout year in late 2017/early 2018, Lucas has consistently pulled out headbanging anthems. By 2019, Lucas’ sixth EP, Wrecking Ball, debuted at #10 on Billboard‘s Dance/Electronic Album Sales. Now he’s taken on Space Mom herself in his official remix of REZZ and Grabbitz‘s “Someone Else.”
In PEEKABOO’s highly-anticipated rendition of the pair’s highly-lauded 2019 anthem, Lucas takes pains to ensure the original is still left intact while making “Someone Else” all his own. Indeed, REZZ’s haunting melodies can still be heard as Grabbitz’s smooth vocals float atop. Yet, PEEKABOO makes sure to bring the original’s electric guitar lines into a more synthesized, electronic world.
After the first drop is where PEEKABOO truly shines as he injects his signature synths and head bobbling bass lines. The entire listening journey maintains a subdued quality that is rare for PEEKABOO. It is, without a doubt, a sultry sonic adventure that REZZ will surely be dropping in her sets once quarantine is over.
