Midweek Mantra Mix 049: Relive G Jones’ incredible Remote Transmissions livestream

Wednesday is humpday, which not only marks the halfway point between the work week and the coveted weekend, but also Conscious Electronic’Midweek Mantra Mix (M3). We’ve been scouring the web’s most enlightening bass music mixes that align with our vision, to provide “a conscious way to consume dance music.” M3 spotlights both veteran and up-and-coming bass music artists whose music seeks to raise the vibrations of their collective listener base.

Summer is officially winding down, and the upcoming long weekend marks the last bit of vacation many of us will have until the winter months. Although cooler weeks are coming, take some time first to rewind to spring when livestreams were in their early stages. One of those first online festivals was Digital Mirage, a highly successful event that amassed thousands of viewers and influenced many internet fests to come after.

G Jones, or Greg Jones by his full name, has torn the roof off shows in recent years and is consistently exploding upwards through the bass music scene. With previous iconic performances at events including Electric Forest, Imagine, Buku, and more, this grime genius is changing the way bass music is perceived. His sound is completely, totally unique–nobody is doing what G Jones is doing. A mixture of trap, glitch, bass, and pure experimentation combines to lend him an ability to story-tell through songwriting. The Santa Cruz based artist hasn’t leaned too heavily into the streaming game, but when he does do a set it’s nothing short of mind blowing. His first Digital Mirage set in particular was an instant hit and is now a fan favorite, with a stunning variety of both older and then-new all original tracks.

The Remote Transmissions set, as G Jones dubbed it, is a lovely reminder that electronic music is more than just robot screeches to rage to: it’s inherently an art form. The 46 minute set is a perfectly structured journey that is satisfying, but also creates a desire for more music. From moments of bass heavy grime and trap to heavenly ascensions, the stream invokes a sense of emotional cleansing and cathartic release, allowing for a full letting go of negative feelings. It starts off strong with lots of high energy beats and breaks, before expertly slowing down for more vibey moments and returning to for a killer finish on his track “Time.” Some sets stick with you long after they’re finished, and this is one of them.

His music and shows have made waves as well as a real name for himself, and the road is only going up from here. Listen below to capture and relive a bit of magic, G Jones style.
