Listen to ZHU’s first solo original single since 2017, ‘Risky Business’

With the two-year anniversary of Ringos Desert looming, which made many Top Albums of the Year lists back in 2018, ZHU has released “Risky Business” on Astralwerks. The Los Angeles-based visionary has been steadily releasing since that time, with epic collaborations alongside Bob Moses, Sofi Tukker, Kito and Jeremih, Tinashe, and NGHTMRE. However, “Risky Business” lands as ZHU’s first solo single in over two years.

At once ominous and mesmerizing, the track unfolds by turns languid and propulsive but always with an underlying tension. ZHU’s hushed vocals lure the listener to “risk it all” and enter into the dark, enticing world of the unknown. “Risky Business” made it’s world debut during ZHU’s Cercle set from the Japanese Alps earlier this year.

The single also comes with an official music video, directed by ZHU himself and Joey Vitalari, which appears to be a piece of jumpy surveillance footage from an experiment known as Project 20201. The camera captures the provocative activities of a series of unknown subjects who frequent a bedroom. After a fade to black and a flip to black and white film, the surveillance continues. The subjects are gone and a team of fixers, clad in hazmat suits, descend on the location to remove any evidence of what transpired.

Watch for ZHU’s appearance in the final frames, his role as mysterious as Project 20201 itself.
