Alex Metric & AMTRAC reunite on heady house collaboration, ‘Upswing’

As two venerated forces in dance music, Alex Metric and AMTRAC have garnered global praise for their own unique approaches to house. After releasing “So Afraid” on the latter’s lauded sophomore LP, Oddyssey, the two producers have come together once again on an invigorating house collaboration that is the perfect fall treat. Out now on Anjunadeep, “Upswing” has finally come to full fruition after its original debut as part of James Grant and Jody Wisternoff’s 2019 set opener at Printworks London.

Clocking in at nearly six minutes, “Upswing” blends ephemeral xylo-synths, energetic crescendos, quaking beats, and a philosophical spoken word sample: “It’s not what happens, it’s how you react to what happens…” After the song’s pulsating drops, the spoken word transcript comes back around to remind listeners that life is so much more than what’s right in front of you. Warm and colorful, organic and inspirational, “Upswing” is a lively and forward-thinking additional to the Anjunadeep vault.
