Midweek Mantra Mix 056: Tripp St. leans into the spiritual with sermon mix

Wednesday is humpday, which not only marks the halfway point between the work week and the coveted weekend, but also Conscious Electronic’s Midweek Mantra Mix (M3). We’ve been scouring the web’s most enlightening bass music mixes that align with our vision, to provide “a conscious way to consume dance music.” M3 spotlights both veteran and up-and-coming bass music artists whose music seeks to raise the vibrations of their collective listener base.
This week’s Midweek Mantra Mix introduces an artist that has the underground bass community deeply curious: Tripp St. The musician came out of left field a mere seven months ago with his debut work, a 47-minute mix simply titled “Welcome to Tripp St.” that heavily featured original songs, a feat nearly unheard of for new artists. That creation alone has garnered over fifty thousand SoundCloud listens, and granted Tripp St. a spot on the SummerEyes live stream that left viewers wowed.
Since then, though, the mystery surrounding who Tripp St. is behind screens has only grown. No one has taken credit for the work, and no pictures or video of the DJ and producer have been shared. It’s rapidly turning into a sort of game among bass music fans in a quest to see who can figure it out first. His social media pages are all new and only display information about the music, further emphasizing the mystery.
His newest and second mix, “Sermon,” takes the demonstration of talent to near progidy levels. It starts off light and ethereal, staying in the downtempo range for a while before dipping into tracks from Jade Cicada, Vorso, Bensley, and Skope among others; and in the meantime sticks largely to all-original unreleased songs by Tripp St. This is where the mix truly gets its power– from the incredible layering and mixing from such an unseen force, and the unexpected number of genres the sound moves through. Whether it’s a jump from jungle to house to dub, there’s something for everyone, and he captures the full attention of anyone who gives this mix a shot.
