Run The Jewels ‘JU$T’ got remixed by Aussie powerhouse producer, What So Not
Aussie powerhouse What So Not has long referred to Run The Jewels as “one of the most exciting groups out there.” So it’s only appropriate that the now-solo producer, whose given name is name Christopher John Emerson, would be working with the noteworthy hip-hop duo to release an official remix. The track is “JU$T,” featuring vocals from Pharrell Williams (also of The Neptunes) and Rage Against The Machine frontman Zack De La Rocha, and it is out now on Run The Jewels’ streaming platforms.
Emerson takes a minimalist approach to the original, paying homage to the high-octane energy and politically-charged lyrics of “JU$T.” Adding in heavy-hitting low-end sequences, suspenseful builds, and catchy topline notes between the 2020 track’s staunch verses, Emerson elevates “JU$T” to new heights and showcases his low-end prowess in the process.
The official remix marks the welcomed return of What So Not to the limelight, who had a rather quiet past year, even announcing a career hiatus in February 2020. The track will likely hold over What So Not fans with hope for his return to production, but the new beat work and masterful precision is hopefully a signal of what is to come from What So Not down the pipeline.
