BUKU hypnotizes on ‘Right Here,’ the lead single to his next Wakaan EP
From the track record of Robert Balotsky’s work as BUKU, it’s clear that the Pittsburgh native and graduate of Music Technology is a well-equipped architect of twisted, layered soundscapes. Fresh off the heels of his Scorched Earth EP, BUKU makes his way back into the weird and wonderful world of Wakaan for “Right Here,” the lead single from his forthcoming EP on the esteemed imprint headed by Liquid Stranger.
Extraterrestrial entities breathe four minutes of life into the wobbly, hypnotic cosmos. Starting with an eerie introduction, the single takes listeners on a sonically bass-filled ride. With punishing drops and thunderous techno kick drums, “Right Here” pulls from Buku’s past musical influences for an explosive musical journey.
“Within this track, I draw inspiration from various flavors of dance music. From thunderous techno kick drums in the build-up, to a main melody akin to old school Pendulum, I reached into my past musical influences to create this track.”
– BUKU
With a menacing grasp on sound design and music theory, BUKU’s newest track combines deceptively simple and emotive melodies, laden with resounding low-end and intricate drum patterns. It’s clear that Buku’s professional education and love of drums rooting from childhood have created yet another roaring hit— just in time for festival season.
Stay tuned for more information surrounding BUKU’s next Wakaan short-player, which is expected to land nearly a year after his What You See EP, released in September 2020. Stream “Right Here” below.
