Futuristic sound design infused with melodic soundscapes. Transporting listeners to a utopian world that’s as vibrant as it is monumental, this is the unmistakable sound of Au5. The melodic bass maestro (real name: Austin Collins) has been coming up for years in the country’s bass capital, but has only recently been on a tear with releasing on dance music’s most renowned labels. He’s previously released heavily on Monstercat during his early days, along with Armada, Gravitas, Enhanced Recordings, Slander’s Heaven Sent, and even holds the title for SSKWAN‘s first-ever release by way of his downtempo-focused EP, Alchemy.

While he’s remixed Seven Lions’ “Oceans” and “Island,” and even worked with the Ophelia boss and Crystal Skies on “Remember,” the melodic wizard has yet to release his own original on the celebrated imprint. Until now. Marking Au5’s first standalone release on Ophelia Records, “The Paper Owl” is an instant melodic masterpiece. Clocking in at nearly five minutes in length, the track combines the airy vocal performance of Arehlai with Au5’s signature bass growls, massive super saw stacks, and an array of shimmering fx and atmospheres.

Speaking to how the track came together, it’s deeper meaning of “rebirth,” and his search for a label home, Au5 revealed,

“‘The Paper Owl’ is about rebirth – rising from the ashes, finding light, freedom and solace after a time of darkness. I began this song in 2016 upon moving to Colorado and beginning a new chapter in life. After years of the song in dormancy, I found Arehlai who was a perfect match lyrically and musically for this one. I’m happy to know that The Paper Owl finally found a home.”

Born and raised in New Jersey, Austin Collins has been a lifelong musician. Trained in classical piano since age 4 and studying bass guitar and music
production since age thirteen, Collins is a well-rounded composer and music technologist.

Encompassing a range of electronic genres such as dubstep, house, trance, drum-and-bass, drum-step, and ambient in his sonic stamp, Au5 is known for fusing the characteristics of trance and dubstep in his music. So it’s understated that a Ophelia original was long overdue for the accomplished artist.
