Back for their first joint release since 2019’s “Daemon Veil,” serial collaborators G JONES and EPROM have emerged from the studio once more with an invigorating acid cut, “On My Mind,” out now on Illusory Records. When these two champions of the bass music underground get together, it’s a real treat for anyone listening.
“On My Mind” is the first sample of the pair’s forthcoming EP, titled Acid Disk 2, their follow-up to 2017’s Acid Disk. The original EP and its sequel are both nods to the early heydeys of illegal warehouse raves, which has been tethered to the “acid house” sound. The track itself takes direct aim at early rave day aughts in its main vocal sample, “oh yea / you always on my mind,” along with more 1-2 second samples taken from various other 90s electronic tracks.
Taking their usual frantic twists and turns in every sonic direction, G JONES and EPROM have given the electronic world something that is not only fantastically fun, tastefully scattered, and especially nostalgic for any kid of the nineties. “On My Mind” is also culturally significant and something anyone who cares about their historical roots ought to find time to appreciate on some level.
Both G JONES and EPROM will be highly busy on the road in 2022, with the former gearing up for a series of curated headline shows with support from Mr. Carmack, Ivy Lab, Redrum, Jon Casey, and more. Meanwhile, EPROM has plenty on his plate with a headlining performance as SHADES at The Untz Festival, as well as support for Flume on his highly-anticipated Palaces world tour.
Stream “On My Mind” below and stay tuned for the collaborators’ incoming Acid Disk 2 EP, whose release date is yet to be determined.
