Three years after the release of his sophomore album, Nurture, Porter Robinson has announced the completion of his upcoming third album.
On Wednesday, Porter fans were all abuzz online when a fan page popped up on Instagram and was followed by Porter himself. It is unusual for Porter to be a member of any fan page, let alone be a follower of said page. The account contained a few posts dating back to early February of this year, and all were scrubbed sometime last night. Fans also noticed that the DNS code on his website had been updated to allude to a third album.
Late afternoon on Thursday, February 29, Porter posted a YouTube video, titled “The Day Porter Robinson Deleted All His Music,” narrated by Louis from Listening With Louis. The video presented a brief (and, at times, oddly fast-forwarded) history of his career, followed by an end screen stating “It’s Done” and a new logo. The video ends with an 18-hour countdown.
Friday morning, around 11 AM CST, Porter posted on his Instagram that “the album is done.” He did not reveal a title, release date, or tracklist. Shortly after, Porter posted a video on TikTok of him in his studio playing an upbeat, hyper-pop-esque song captioned #NEWMUSIC.
The new project will be Robinson’s third studio LP, following the 2021 album Nurture, which itself was a long-awaited follow-up to his 2014 Worlds. In late 2017, Porter also released a five-track EP under an alias, Virtual Self, an homage to late 90s and early 2000s dance music and a beloved project by his fan base.
