Tragedy strikes at Electric Forest: Investigation continues after newborn found dead, FBI offers $15,000 reward

The investigation into the death of a newborn found on the grounds of Electric Forest 2026 remains active more than a month after the tragic discovery, with new details emerging from investigators and medical officials.

The infant was discovered on June 28 by a sanitation worker servicing a portable restroom in the festival’s Good Life camping area. The worker immediately alerted authorities, prompting an investigation by the Michigan State Police, which has since expanded to include the FBI.

According to investigators, a preliminary autopsy determined that the newborn was born alive. Medical officials have also confirmed the infant was a girl, though her official cause and manner of death remain pending additional forensic testing.

As the investigation has progressed, the FBI announced a $15,000 reward for information leading to the identification, arrest, and conviction of the person or persons responsible in the case.

Authorities continue to ask anyone who attended Electric Forest and may have information to come forward. Investigators have not publicly identified the infant’s mother, nor have they announced any arrests or named any suspects.

In recent weeks, Michigan State Police have also addressed misinformation circulating online. After social media users began identifying individuals they believed were connected to the case, investigators confirmed that at least one woman who had voluntarily cooperated with law enforcement had been eliminated as a person of interest. Authorities have repeatedly urged the public not to speculate while the investigation remains ongoing.

Festival organizers issued a statement following the discovery, expressing their condolences and stating they were fully cooperating with law enforcement. Since then, Electric Forest has deferred further public comment as the investigation continues.

The case has drawn national attention, with coverage from major news organizations following the release of new investigative details, including confirmation that the infant was born alive and the FBI’s involvement.

At this time, investigators have not released information regarding how long the infant survived after birth, whether the birth occurred inside the festival grounds, or whether any criminal charges will ultimately be filed.

The investigation remains active.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Michigan State Police at 1-855-MICHTIP or the FBI Detroit Field Office through their anonymous tip portal. The FBI has established a dedicated tip portal and continues to offer a $15,000 reward for information that advances the investigation.
