LCD Soundsystem announce new live album, ‘Electric Lady Sessions’

LCD Soundsystem’s new live LP was recorded as part of a Spotify Singles session in New York’s Electric Lady Studios.

After eight years of radio silence, LCD Soundsystem returned in September of 2017 with their comeback album, American Dream. Since then, the Brooklyn-based rock group have released a remix of “I Want Your Love,” an original single in “Home,” and took home a Grammy for Best Dance Recording for the track “Tonight.”

They’ve also been busy working on their solo endeavors. Frontman James Murphy has traveling on his 2ManyDJs’ traveling audiophile soundsystem, Despacito, while Gavin (Rayna) Russom has come out as transgender, holding a Ladies of LCD Soundsystem DJ tour alongside fellow synth-maestro Nancy Whang.

Now the band has announced their newest project endeavor, dubbed Electric Lady Sessions, a forthcoming live album due for release later this year via DFA/Columbia Records.

To mark the occasion, they’ve released the album’s first track. It’s a cover of UK new wave act Heaven 17’s “(We Don’t Need This) Fascist Groove Thang,” which was originally released 40 years ago. Complete with frantic builds, groovy breakdowns, and their signature electric guitar solos, the track boasts a disco throwback with an explicit anti-fascist message that is supremely relevant in the Trump era of American politics today.
