Careful not to mistake Calvin Harris for being an “EDM” producer. In a recent Q&A over Twitter, the 34-year-old Scots DJ/producer took some time to engage with fans over the trajectory of his music and the state of “EDM” on the whole.

The most poignant response he gave was to a fan who asked whether he’d be “going back to EDM at some point,” to which Harris responded,

But Harris will always have a special place in his heart for the line of house music which catapulted him to global fame.

Harris was also extremely candid with with fans on being a self-taught musician, his plans to return to the festival circuit, and simply reminding them that his time away was due to his FunkWav studio project.

Additionally, Harris says he’s making some “big records with amazing singers,” but he doesn’t plan to do a full-fledged house project in the foreseeable future, citing his “very short attention span nowadays.” By the sounds of it, the future of Calvin Harris music may just be coming solely in the form of single releases (like his Sam Smith collaboration) with a pop predilection.
