MUST LISTEN: RL Grime taps k?d, Said The Sky, & 1788-L on first volume of ‘NOVA Remixes’
Known for his annual Halloween mixtape series and heavy bass aesthetics, RL Grime‘s projects often feature a multitude of styles and collaborations with artists from many sides of the musical spectrum. His debut album VOID and its subsequent remix album were both met with similar acclaim — and with acclaim comes a growing fanbase excited at the prospect of hearing more prolific cuts of the producer’s second album, NOVA. Now the Los Angeles based artist returns with another hard-hitting, genre-straddling remix installment.
Enlisting the help of k?d, TYNAN, MYRNE, and more, NOVA Remixes weaves its way through soaring emotionally laden vocal tracks, to hip-hop and R&B remixes, to mind-melting psychedelic and glitch breakdowns, and right back to soulful, with a final characteristically touching track by Said The Sky. A pair of outrageously heavy-hitting remixes of the song “Era,” by Eptic and 1788-L, fit nicely in the middle of the album and will leave listeners’ jaws on the floor.
The songs here are skillfully crafted and together form a fairly unified musical project. All 11 tracks offer something unique, yet cohesive that continue to raise hype as he continues touring. Luckily for fans, there is a second 10-track volume of NOVA remixes set for release next week.
