Stream Maya Jane Coles’ sultry ‘Waves & Whirlwinds’ EP

Since her acclaimed debut album drop off in July 2013, Maya Jane Coles has maintained a uniquely textured sound by drawing on everything from house and techno to R&B and dub. She’s gained global visibility through some of the world’s largest festivals, including Fuji Rock Japan, Coachella, Movement Detroit, and Creamfields UK, to name a few.

Now the multi-talented underground goddess has released her new Waves & Whirlwinds EP, out now on her very own label, I/AM/ME. As with any of her other previous releases, the Japanese Brit can be credited with writing, producing, arranging, mixing, engineering, and performing every single track on the project. It’s what has made her a bit of an enigma in the music industry.

From the celestial entryway into the EP with “Don’t Leave,” to the dark, downtempo terrain of “Isolate,” to the peculiar and sinister stylings of “Other Side” and onward through the EP closing/title track, Maya Jane Coles has constructed another effortless and emotionally-nuanced project for the underground mavens of the world.
