5 things we learned from Flume’s impromptu Reddit AMA

Recently, Flume took to Reddit to address fans in a live, impromptu Ask Me Anything (AMA) format. The AMA was completely unannounced and out of left-field, taking fans by total surprise, but also doubled as a platform to casually release his recent track, “Friends,” featuring Reo Cragum, which he also surprised fans with last week.

Given how the Aussie experimentalist, born Harvey Streten, has been full of surprises since the release of his Hi, This Is Flume mixtape in late March, its only fitting that a random Q&A with fans session came exactly when it did. The hour-long session yielded some rather exciting news straight from Streten himself—from a possible collaboration with Travis Scott to more mixtapes on the way—but also a lot of one-word responses to fans’ questions as well.

Here’s what we’ve learned sifting through the trove of information on Streten bestowed on his fan community in r/Flume.

1.) A potential Travis Scott would be extremely welcomed.

Tons of collaboration questions emerged, but Streten only gave credence to one. When he was asked about his thoughts on a Flume and Travis Scott collaboration, he expressed immediate interest. Another fan mentioned how the “Sicko Mode” rapper already follows Flume on Twitter, which make the possibility even more viable. The two experimentalists in their own right could most definitely cook up something delicious.

2) More mixtapes are on the way.

Streten had tons of questions pour in over his mixtape, but when one fan asked about the possibility of more, he said he absolutely plans to release more. It’s not too surprising since he previously revealed that he was unleashing loads of new material in 2019. As to the question of how many though, that will remain a mystery.

4) If he could collaborate with anyone, it would be Arca.

When asked his dream collaborator, Flume threw out the name Arca, whose known for credits on Kanye Wests Yeezus. The response completely took everyone by surprise. But when one thinks about their two sounds, one fan said it best: “can def hear his sound in your new shit.” Without a doubt, the two would manifest something genius together.

5) On his drastic stylistic change from his debut self-titled album to his sophomore Skin LP to his Hi, This Is Flume mixtape.

While on another question over mixtapes, Streten revealed that the reason he changed up his style so significantly in his newest is not solely because he’s an experimentalist at heart. Flume revealed it’s because of producers copycatting his style, therefore tiring his sound out, but also because he gets bored of doing the same thing over and over.

He also revealed how the mixtape was a breakthrough for him.
