Bassnectar celebrates 20 years of Dreamtempo with brand new ‘Tempo of Dreams’ mixtape

Nevermind the fact that Bassnectar coming to town is always a circus show. This past weekend in Denver, the third annual Freestyle Sessions was an unexpected roller coaster ride of events when the 1stBank Center announced that they would be closing for immediate technical repairs. Bassnectar and his team were subsequently forced to find and secure an entirely new venue in town for over 6,000 ticketholders.

The Bassnectar team accomplished the impossible on Sunday, June 9, by moving all their sound (and some lighting) equipment to Denver Coliseum in roughly 18 hours. However, Saturday night’s coveted Dreamtempo set simply could not go on due to the last minute logistical nature of the sudden venue cancellation. Never one to disappoint fans, Bassnectar has more than made up for that fact with a surprise early release of his “Tempo of Dreams” mixtape.

We were gunna release the mixtape after this weekend’s event as a surprise,” said Bassnectar on his blog, “but maybe we can get that out a little early.”

The 32-minute mixtape marks the twenty year anniversary of Bassnectar’s 1999 “Dreamtempo” mixtape, although he re-released the mixtape back in 2013. For Bassnectar to release a brand new mixtape has been a long time coming… and certainly a heavily fan-requested move. Filled with ethereal melodies, weird loops, funky acid jazz, and left-field beats, the “Tempo of Dreams” mixtape covers the full gamut of Bassnectar discography—including his legendary remixes, from Buku’s “Front to Back” and Purity Ring’s “Flood on the Floor,” as well as a new trajectory of tracks like 20syl’s “Kodama,” which he delivered live last night at the Denver Coliseum. Above all, the mixtape represents Bassnectar’s love of heavy, hypnotic downtempo music.
