Midweek Mantra Mix 019: Cool off with Subdocta’s ‘Winter 2018 Mix’

Wednesday is humpday, which not only marks the halfway point between the work week and the coveted weekend, but also Conscious Electronic’Midweek Mantra Mix (M3). We’ve been scouring the web’s most enlightening bass music mixes that align with our vision, to provide “a conscious way to consume dance music.” M3 spotlights both veteran and up-and-coming bass music artists whose music seeks to raise the vibrations of their collective listener base.

The summer is heating up, and as temperatures rise across the globe, the intensity and frequency of musical events and releases seems to be spiking as well. It seems like every week, there are a slew of new tunes, as well as videos of live performances and stories of legendary sets at festivals. As electronic music culture reaches its frenzied peak with the approach of August events like Shambhala, BassCenter and Burning Man, it’s nice to grab some of that winter chill to take a breath.

Dubstep producer Subdocta has had a steady year of success in 2019, and is currently basking in the glow of a recent EP release on Ganja White Night’s imprint, SubCarbon. He’s been working with a number of other notable producers, like StratusDirt Monkey, and an impending Rusko collaboration out on Friday, as well as played on some notable festival mainstages this year. By any account, SubDocta is excited about the new music he’ll be putting out and what the rest of the year has to offer: “Steady cookin on what I believe is my best body of work yet. The rest of 2019 into 2020 will be so fun,” he says over his Instagram.

SubDocta’s Winter 2018 Mix is a great example of his wonky style and crisp production skills. Rich with his own original music, along with tracks from his friends, it’s a sideways yet accessible journey into the world of low-end dubstep. Head-nodding rhythms and lively samples accentuate the timeline, giving listeners a taste of the direction that SubDocta is going with his music career. At times pulsatingly heavy, at other meditative and relaxed, the mix encompasses a variety of feelings and textures throughout the nearly 40-minute-long journey — making it a natural choice for this week’s M3 spotlight.

Check out rising star SubDocta and cool off with his Winter 2018 mix.
