Knife Party enlists Laidback Luke for third official remix from ‘Lost Souls’ EP, ‘Death & Desire’
After Knife Party‘s explosive summer release with their Lost Souls EP, which marked Rob Swire and Gareth McGrillen’s first release in over four years, the legendary duo is back with more officially remixed tracks from the project. This time, they’ve enlisted the help of a fellow legend in his own genre category, Lucas Cornelis van Scheppingen, better known as Laidback Luke.
Knife Party has already handed over remixing duties for two Lost Souls tracks, to DnB heavyweights Muzzy on “Ghost Train” and British duo Annix on “Lost Souls,” respectively. Laidback Luke takes on the EP’s third track, “Death & Desire,” featuring Harrison, upon which the progressive/electro-fitted artist does a phenomenal job sticking to the original. By only slightly altering the song’s beats, lightening certain synths, tweaking up the bassline, and layering in some of his own signature sounds, Laidback Luke has delivered a killer remix with traces of his own style melded in.
While an unlikely artist to re-outfit Knife Party’s commercially successful sound, Laidback Luke actually stands as the perfect remixer addition to Lost Souls. After all, the extended player was meant to be an exercise in Knife Party trying on new sounds, genres, and styles. The result is a remix that both Knife Party and Laidback Luke fans will thoroughly enjoy. Stay tuned as Knife Party uncovers the fourth and final remixed track to their 4-track come back EP, Lost Souls.
