Lane 8 caps off the year with majestic Winter 2019 Mixtape
Bay Area progressive house icon Lane 8 is closing out the year with another soothing installment in his storied seasonal mixtape series. The This Never Happened label head has been delivering the mixes since Winter of 2013, delivering four mixes annually with each showcasing the true reason for the season. This year, he actually gave fans five mixes with a bonus Halloween mixtape.
The mixtapes celebrate the natural cycle of the seasons— from snowfall to sunshine, and everything in between—as well as their meanings in our own lives. Winter’s mix touches on metaphors of death and impermanence, turning inward, and letting the old parts of ourselves die off to make room for rebirth. To capture this ethos, Lane 8 surveys the spectrum of chill, ambient, and house, enlisting Jon Hopkins, Gorgon City, Made In Paris, along with Anjuna mainstays Eli & Fur and Ben Böhmer, plus more. The two-hour mixtape also features several originals and IDs of his own making, most likely from his fast approaching LP release.
Lane 8’s third album Brightest Lights is due January 10, 2020, along with his accompanying album tour, which spans dates in North America and Europe through February. Thus far, he’s delivered five singles off the forthcoming album.
