Purity Ring announce forthcoming third studio album + tour with vibrant single, ‘stardew’
Purity Ring, the brainchild of Megan James and Corin Roddick, are ushering the new decade with a new album. The Canadian indie-electronic duo announced today that their 10-track effort, WOMB, will release on April 3 via 4AD Records. Arriving a full eight years after their debut, Shrines, the release comes as the follow-up their last full-length, 2015’s Another Eternity, which housed popular tracks like “Flood On The Floor,” “Begin Again,” and “Stranger Than Earth.” Each track has received their full share of festival main stage time from dance music artists across the spectrum.
To mark the announcement, Purity Ring has released the first record from the album in “stardew.” Curiously, it’s also the last song on their new album, but then again when have the two ever been known for doing things in traditional fashion? The synth-pop styled single is marked by James’ aerated vocals, loping keys, and twinkling xylophones, all layered between bouncy reverbs, faint keys, and glitchy production care of instrumentalist James. Additional twinkling sounds are eloquently woven underneath James’ echoing vocals, creating a melodic, expansive masterpiece.
Purity Ring also announced a headlining North American tour in tandem with the LP release. The US leg of the tour kicks off May 3 at Van Buren in Phoenix and wraps up June 11 at The Los Angeles Palladium, before heading off to Europe during September.
