Gorillaz tease ‘Song Machine’ album with third single, ‘Aries’

The UK animated electronic band teams up with Peter Hook and Georgia on the new track, “Aries”

Headed up by real-life musician and frontman Damon Albarn, Gorillaz are back in timely fashion to teach listeners how to escape COVID-19 quarantine. The band’s latest Song Machine offering, “Aries,” comes as a third release from the Song Machine series. Gorillaz began rolling out the album back in February with “Désolé” and “Momentary Bliss,” respectively.

Gorillaz teamed up with bassist Peter Hook of Joy Division and New Order, along with alt-pop singer and producer Georgia, who contributed the drums on the record. Clearly guided by Hook’s synthpop, dance-rock, and new wave influences, the track is somber and bleak, yet bouncy and adventurous.

The video depicts a world that is currently staying inside, as Murdoc, 2D, Noodle and Russel defiantly hop into vehicles and hit the open road. 2D and Murdoc are riding together, and Murdoc has a little truth serum to make the trip a bit more interesting. At the end of the video, 2-D, who’s showing us how one can use a bandana as a mask, gives a little PSA: “Make sure you stay in. Stay safe… Oh yeah, and keep washing your hands.”

For those feeling lonely while quarantining, you can sing-up to join the Gorillaz at their new virtual hangout — the G Club.
