Tash Sultana shares first release of 2020 with ‘Pretty Lady,’ announces new album
2019 was huge for Tash Sultana. The Australian singer-songwriter saw a debut album, Jungle, go double platinum amid sold-out shows all over the world. Now Sultana is back with her first release of the year, “Pretty Lady,” along with a crowdsourced music video.
“I’ve been trying to figure out how to write this song for like six years,” says Sultana in a press release. “I used to loop it and just freestyle to it when I was busking years ago, but I always got stuck on the same parts. I put the song in a box at the back of my mind and revisited it in November 2019. I had Dann [Hume] and Matt [Corby] spend some time in my studio and that’s when I decided to show them this song. It’s my first song I’ve collaborated with other players on.”
Characterized by beautifully simplistic melodies, infectious melodies, reverb-laden claps, and more, “Pretty Lady” is a slow-burning jam for chilling out and cool relaxing. The music video features an array of pretty ladies, men, kids, and even dogs dancing along to the song’s cool, wavy melody.
“Pretty Lady” is set to appear on Sultana’s still-untitled sophomore album later this year. Tash is set to head out on an international tour beginning in late May, but the tour is dependent on how long the global COVID-19 pandemic plays out. The tour should see the debut of Sultana’s new live band, which was formed last October when the one-person show announced the end of the solo career.
