29 Palms follow up debut EP with two-track EP, ‘Unfolding’

29 Palms marks the newest electronic outfit from Josh Mayer and Justin Boreta of The Glitch Mob. The project is an explorative world of hypnotic dancefloor-focused music. After previous standout sets at Coachella, Deja Voom, and Electric Forest, as well as a 2018 Lightning in a Bottle appearance, the duo are primed for their 2020 return. The LA-based duo have quickly followed up their official debut EP, Nobody Horizon, with their two-track EP, Unfolding, now available across all platforms via their independent imprint, Glass Air Records.

29 Palms’ Unfolding EP builds on where its predecessor, Nobody Horizon, ended and instantly raises the stakes. The EP begins with its self-titled track, “Unfolding,” and dives headfirst into a heavy bassline and intricate grooves that immediately bring the listener to the dancefloor. The pair quickly transition into “Starsplitter,” which immediately evokes an atmosphere of tribal tones and outdoor gatherings of which the EP was inspired. The two cuts are lengthy treats, each clocking in at just under seven full minutes.

“We wrote ‘Unfolding’ and ‘Starsplitter’ as an experiment in faster tempos for our set at The Do Lab stage at Coachella in 2019,” says Ooah and Boreta in a press statement. “Initially they were part of the Nobody Horizon EP, but at the last minute we separated them out to let them exist in their own world.”
