Sofi Tukker links with Gorgon City on catchy new house joint, ‘House Arrest’
Two of the world’s foremost electronic acts, Sofi Tukker and Gorgon City, have joined forces on a massive collaborative effort. The iconic international acts have long stood for all the good things about the music industry and it’s a distinct energy they ooze from their pores. So a joint effort between the German-American electro-pop duo and UK underground house stars is not just welcomed, but glorified and praised among many circles.
The quartet’s new single, “House Arrest,” is a soothing four-on-the-floor ballad whose title aligns with the current Stay At Home orders in effect globally due to the coronavirus pandemic. Of the SOFI TUKKER duo, Sophie Hawley-Weld explains that they conceived the idea for the track with Gorgon City a while ago over a friendly hangout session. She further stated that putting out a song about being locked inside while the world actually inside is a bit of a happy kind of accident: “We started this song on ‘House Tuesday’: a gathering of the homies every Tuesday to have fun and improvise house music.”
The way the two duetted acts balance each other’s styles is second to none. Upon first listen, one can immediately hear Sofi Tukker’s touches, namely in Sofi’s signature vocals and a jungle-inspired bass line. At the same time, Gorgon City’s thumping deep house beats and expansive synths are apparent on the track. The song seems to come together so effortlessly, it’s an almost daunting feeling. Considering the two artists working we’re talking about here, the pieces do come together the more one listens.
