Stream Four Tet’s surprise new EP under cryptic Wingdings alias
Between releasing his tenth studio album, Sixteen Oceans, releasing a stunning Boiler Room isolation set, and remixing Caribou‘s “Never Come Back.” Four Tet has been anything but silent lately. Now the British producer (whose real name is Kieran Hebden) has returned under his symbol-filled name, ⣎⡇ꉺლ༽இ•̛)ྀ◞ ༎ຶ ༽ৣৢ؞ৢ؞ؖ ꉺლ, with an equally illegible surprise EP. The release follows Four Tet sharing five new songs for free on his Soundcloud page last month.
The unpronounceable record features four cryptic tracks, each with titles also written in the Wingdings font. Complete with sounds that are sitting at the cutting-edge of electronic sound design, and equally as hard to pin down, the new EP is a welcomed treat for the many who have been following the jack-of-all-trades producer. The project is ripe with 15 minutes of music that takes a deep dive into Four Tet’s experimental, left-field, intriguing, and whimsical sound.
Four Tet first began releasing music under his Wingdings moniker in 2018 and has sporadically put out tracks ever since—always in sparse and always at random. If nothing else, this is one producer who always keeps everyone guessing and never lets them down.
