Midweek Mantra Mix 048: Super Future explores the chiller, softer, more beautiful side of bass music on ‘Sunday Bass Vol. 4’ [WATCH]
Wednesday is humpday, which not only marks the halfway point between the work week and the coveted weekend, but also Conscious Electronic’s Midweek Mantra Mix (M3). We’ve been scouring the web’s most enlightening bass music mixes that align with our vision, to provide “a conscious way to consume dance music.” M3 spotlights both veteran and up-and-coming bass music artists whose music seeks to raise the vibrations of their collective listener base.
Hailing from one of the Midwest’s hotbeds for bass music, Nick Rowland can be found captivating the local scene of Grand Rapids, Michigan with the sounds of his alias, Super Future. With support from major artists like LSDREAM, Minnesota, Subtronics, Slushii, Martin Garrix, MeSo, and UZ, and a recent joint EP and headlining tour with Wreckno that took the pair to one of Okeechobee‘s mainstages, Super Future has even shared stages with big names from Zeds Dead to What So Not.
Rowland’s style is a diverse combination of wildly experimental freeform bass, beautiful melodies, and bright future-style synths, all complimented by virtuosic guitar solos. Super Future offers more than just an array of jaw-dropping vibrant sounds, though. Over the past three years, he’s been developing his Sunday Bass mix series, which explores the chiller, softer, more beautiful side of bass music.
“I’m currently working on music that I feel really embodies the side of my project that expresses a very conscious, emotional, and freeform feeling through music,” Rowland told CE. His Sunday Bass mixes are some that he’s especially proud of for how they’re centered around the same sort of sound.
I call it a “healing” mix, and it’s quite a journey.” – Super Future
That’s also precisely what makes his fourth and latest installment of Sunday Bass the perfect addition to CE‘s Midweek Mantra Mix series. Super Future’s mixes are meant to give people healing, deep, sensual experiences through music you can hear and see. That’s why Sunday Bass Vol. 4 comes with a journey-filled audio-visual accompaniment from Super Future’s dear friend and VJ, Digital.D.
With selections from Slander, tiedye ky, Of The Trees, Minnesota, CharlesTheFirst, Supertask, and Schlomo, along with plenty of Super Future IDs presumably from his forthcoming Prisms album rumored to land sometime this year, the two-and-a-half-hour mixtape takes a deep dive into the corners of the psyche. The point is to become lucid, reflective, and calm as Super Future takes you into his world.
Tune into Super Future’s Sunday BAss Vol. 4 mix below and don’t forget to watch the mesmerizing visualizer. Also, be sure to check out Super Future next month as the next guest on CE‘s Wide Awake Radio.
