Sofi Tukker turns Dillon Francis and Baby Jake’s ‘You Do You’ into a groovy house-pop tune
Comprised of Sophie Hawley-Weld and Tucker Halpern, Sofi Tukker have perfectly captured their always eclectic, never mistakable house-pop sound, steadily releasing a slew of successful singles and remixes for fans to enjoy. The duo can often be found tinkering with electronic songs on stages like Coachella and collaborating with artists like Gorgon City and ZHU. Recently, the New York residing duo has been swapping songs with LA-based funny guy Dillon Francis. First it was Francis’ remix of their original tune, “Purple Hat,” some four months ago.
Most recently they’ve tackled Dillon Francis and Baby Jake’s recent single, “You Do You,” which first landed back in April. The original track has a melodic, soulful house rhythm that stays fairly laid back throughout with accompanying love-gone-wrong lyrics. Sofi Tukker puts a spin on it with the addition of some flawlessly crafted vocal glitches and dramatic builds, mixed with experimental samples and uptempo beats. The adjustments to the song lend it a more energetic, yet sensual feel and an entirely new vibe.
Sofi Tukker has been fairly active recently, regularly releasing music and playing DJ sets on livestreams. Today, July 4, they’re even airing their 100th livestream performance. Be sure to tune in and listen to the new remix below.
